What K1 means by a dog patrol
K1’s own description of this service is short, and the website keeps it that way on purpose. The company offers dog patrols and asks you to talk to them before assuming a deployment. This page explains the kind of work that conversation is about, without inventing a specification the company has not published.
A dog patrol means a handler working with a patrol dog. They attend together. The job is usually to be seen, and to check ground that benefits from a dog’s presence: a perimeter, a yard, a compound, plant left on a site overnight. It is not a detection service. K1 has not published drugs, explosives or search-dog work, and this page does not add it.
Where it tends to fit, and where it does not
The sites that usually prompt the question are open or quiet: industrial parks, warehouses with a yard, construction land after the workforce has gone, and commercial property standing empty. A handler and dog can cover that ground and give a clearer warning to anyone who should not be there.
They are a poor fit, unless the brief says otherwise, for a busy licensed venue, a crowded shop floor, or anywhere the public, children or animals are mixed in with the patrol route. Welfare of the dog and safety of people on the site come before the booking. If the answer is no, K1 would rather provide a patrol or a static officer than force a dog onto the wrong premises.
What to tell K1 before a booking
Describe the ground, not just the postcode. Is it fenced? Can the public walk through it? Are there other dogs, livestock, or staff still working? What time is the site empty, and what do you want the handler to do if they find an open gate or a person inside?
Where the handler is contracted to guard the premises, the activity still sits under the same manned-guarding rules as any other contracted guard: the person needs the licence that matches the work. The dog is not a separate SIA licence category. K1 confirms the arrangement, including that point, before the first visit. You are not passed to another brand to have the conversation.
